Continuing Medical Education (CME)

AAPath is pleased to offer Continuing Medical Education for select meeting sessions. CME is included in the meeting registration rate for physicians. Claims will be available for in-person or remote session attendance and on-demand viewing of the recorded sessions after the conference. Please read the directions for claiming CME credits carefully prior to the Annual Meeting.

DIRECTIONS FOR CLAIMING CME CREDITS: Use the online credit tracking worksheets (linked here) to track your attendance and viewing time (CME hours), evaluations, and comments for each presentation/session you attend/view during or after the AAPath 2025 conference days. After the AAPath Annual Meeting and through October 31, 2025, login to the online CME evaluation form that will be posted on this webpage and use these tracker notes to fill out the online form, which must be submitted all at once (in one sitting) starting on July 30th. Note that if you claim credit for only the live sessions ahead of the launch of the on-demand recordings of most ballroom sessions that will be available soon after the conference week, you will not receive credit related to the recorded sessions. Otherwise, amplify your CME learning and credits by reviewing the recordings when they become available (early August), claiming those additional hours, and submitting responses online NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 31, 2025. Certificates will be emailed within 4-6 weeks of submitting your claims from the AAPath Office. All other CME information and disclosures are posted below. Questions? Contact the AAPath Office at: [email protected].

AAPath 2025 Annual Meeting CME Program

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION: The AAPath 2025 Annual Meeting is an “other/blended” learning activity (live course and enduring material) that provides educational activities designed to provide training and professional development for academic pathologists.

TARGET AUDIENCE: The live session presentations and discussions, and recordings of such live sessions, provide educational activities for four target audiences:

  • Chairs, Vice Chairs, and former Chairs (Senior Fellows) of academic departments of pathology and laboratory medicine;
  • Program Directors and Associate Program Directors of pathology residency training programs;
  • Pathology faculty educators of medical students; and
  • Other faculty members and trainees (fellows, residents, and medical students) aspiring to these positions.

The target audience consists of physicians/physician-scientists (MD, DO, PhD) and others who serve as the medical, scientific, and administrative leaders of academic departments of pathology and laboratory medicine in the United States and Canada.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES: The objective of the learning activity is to facilitate knowledge acquisition to enable departments to fulfill their missions in clinical service, teaching, and research. Content focuses on issues in three broad areas that address educational needs in knowledge, competency, and performance:

  1. ADMINISTRATION/LEADERSHIP FOR PATHOLOGY PRACTICE: Developing and refining leadership skills for the practice and management of successfully administering an academic pathology department to meet the demands of the three departmental missions within an academic health system: practice, medical education, and research.

  2. EDUCATIONAL STRATEGIES: Enhancing medical education content and faculty development are prioritized to develop both the content and pedagogy for the identified gaps in the continuum from undergraduate and graduate medical education, as well as continuous medical education for practicing pathologists.

  3. INNOVATIVE DISCOVERIES: Strategies to sustain a department include addressing (a) the laboratory workforce with evolving technology and innovations in research infrastructure and collaborations, (b) the training and development of faculty, staff, and trainees, and (c) how to navigate new regulatory and research funding challenges for academic laboratories.

ACCREDITATION STATEMENT FOR CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION (CME): This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint providership of American Society of Cytopathology (ASC) and the Association for Academic Pathology (AAPath). The ASC is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CREDIT DESIGNATION STATEMENT: The ASC/AAPath designates this other/blended (live and recorded) educational activity for a maximum of 48.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
