What are Entrustable Professional Activities?
Entrustable Professional Activities, or EPAs, are a competency-based assessment method anchored in trust. In pathology, EPAs are designed as a workplace-based assessment tool to capture entrustment decisions happening between teachers and trainees every day. We recommend using them as frequent, low-stakes assessments to help trainees learn and assess their progress at day-to-day pathology tasks over time.

Faculty and Resident Development in how to use EPAs is essential to develop a shared mental model about EPAs in residency training. Faculty and residents can complete training on demand, with a certificate of completion emailed after. Alternatively, training can be done as a group with discussion.
