PROGRAM INFORMATION

AAPath 2026 will continue to be delivered in a hybrid format for a dynamic in-person experience with access available to remote attendees to most ballroom sessions that will be broadcast over Zoom. The 2026 AAPath Annual Meeting Program is currently in development by AAPath Committees and Section Councils and will aim to address the most timely and relevant topics for your professional development in academic pathology leadership. Program updates will be posted here as they become available.

In the meantime, for those with innovations in education for medical students through pathology trainees, UMEDS Council and PRODS Council invite you to submit an abstract to be considered for the poster program at AAPath 2026. See additional details below.

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS - SUBMISSION PERIOD NOW OPEN!

On behalf of the Undergraduate Medical Educators Section (UMEDS) and the residency Program Directors Section (PRODS), the Association for Academic Pathology (AAPath) invites AAPath and Section members, their faculty, staff, trainees, and other stakeholders to submit abstracts for poster presentations during the AAPath 2026 Annual Meeting at the Hilton Boston Park Plaza Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts from July 19-22, 2026. Please review all of the information below and then submit your abstract through the online form linked further below no later than the deadline of Monday, December 1, 2025 at 11:59pm EST. SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 11:59 p.m. EST on Monday, December 1, 2025.

ABSTRACT CONTENT: Abstracts should describe innovations in the continuum of education, i.e., from undergraduate medical education (UME) to graduate medical education (GME), or educational leadership, pipeline or pathway activities/initiatives, and faculty/career development in an academic environment. Abstracts must clearly state the objective of the study, program, or intervention, describe the methods and resources utilized, and critically analyze relevant data. Metrics for “effectiveness,” “success,” and “impact” must be explained to help serve as a model for other institutions to adopt and implement. Examples of appropriate topics include, but are not limited to:

  • analyzing and adapting to USMLE Step 1 using pass/fail scoring
  • amplifying medical student engagement with the curriculum
  • incorporating or integrating technology in teaching and learning
  • utilizing innovative pedagogies and teaching modalities
  • integrating pathology into the medical school curriculum, with particular emphasis on histology, gross anatomy, and neuroscience/neuroanatomy integration
  • optimizing competency-based education and assessment
  • determining progressive responsibility with trainees
  • implementing faculty/career development as a pathology educator
  • developing pipeline/pathway activities or initiatives for recruitment into pathology

ABSTRACT FORMAT: There is a 2700 character limit that includes the section headers listed below; each header must be included in your body text. While there is no character limit set in this system, any abstract longer than 2700 characters will be truncated. Please be sure to check your character count in your word processing document prior to pasting into the fields below. Do not include figures, tables, or graphs in the abstract submission.

  • Objectives: What is the purpose or aim of the study? What is the question being addressed?
  • Methods: How was the study performed? What resources and procedures were used in the study?
  • Results: What data were collected? What is the analysis of that data?
  • Conclusions: What does the analyses of the data mean? What implications does that have? Does the data inform the hypothesis or address the question being addressed?
  • References: What resources or other literature were used to formulate your hypothesis and study?

NOTIFICATIONS will be sent by email no later than Friday, February 27th.
All accepted abstracts will be presented as posters* during the AAPath 2026 Annual Meeting and published in AAPath’s journal, Academic Pathology (with permission of the corresponding authors). Abstracts published previously elsewhere may be submitted with appropriate annotation of prior publication. There is no abstract submission fee. However, poster presenters are required to fund their own travel to the meeting and meeting registration. *More information on developing a poster will be communicated in the Spring of 2026 upon notification.

ABSTRACT POLICIES:

ABSTRACT LIMIT: There are no restrictions on the number of submissions you may submit. An individual can be named as first (presenting) author on more than one abstract.

CHARACTER LIMIT: There is a limit of 2700 character count for the body text and spaces. Figures, tables, or graphs are not permitted in an abstract submission. For best results, cut and paste the text of your abstract from a Microsoft Word document into the field provided. You may also type the text of your abstract into the main text field. Do not include any author information or title in the abstract text area.

AUTHOR LIMIT: There are no restrictions on the number of co-authors on an abstract. However, they must be listed as indicated below. Additionally, each author on the abstract submission must disclose any financial relationships with commercial interests. If any, please indicate the company, the type of compensation, and the type of role for each author listed.

The CORRESPONDING AUTHOR is the main point of contact and submitter of information to AAPath. The Corresponding Author may not necessarily be the senior or Presenting Author. The Corresponding Author is responsible for notifying all other authors of information provided by AAPath.

The PRESENTING AUTHOR is the author who presents the poster on behalf of the author team. The Presenting Author may not necessarily be the Corresponding Author. The Presenting Author is listed as the first author. The Presenting Author must be registered to attend the AAPath 2026 Annual Meeting.

TERMS OF AGREEMENT AND GENERAL SUBMISSION POLICIES: By submitting an abstract, the Corresponding Author accepts the following:

  1. The Corresponding Author has the authority on behalf of all authors to submit an abstract for poster presentation at the annual meeting and, if permitted, publication in Academic Pathology. In addition to a poster presentation, the presenting author of selected abstracts may be invited for a panel presentation.
  2. The Corresponding Author on behalf of all authors has obtained and can supply all necessary permissions for the reproduction of any copyright works not owned by the Corresponding Author or authors.
  3. Abstracts published previously elsewhere may be submitted with appropriate annotation of prior publication.
  4. The standard license for Academic Pathology is Creative Commons by Attribution Non-Commercial No Derivatives (CC BY-NC-ND 4), which allows others to re-use the work without permission as long as the work is properly referenced and the use is non-commercial.
  5. The Corresponding Author is responsible for notifying all other authors of information provided by AAPath, e.g., submission confirmation, acceptance or rejection, poster information, and presentation times.
  6. While there is neither an abstract submission fee nor publication fee, poster presenters are required to fund their own travel to the meeting and meeting registration.
  7. The Corresponding and Presenting Authors agree to receive communications from the AAPath, including advertisements approved by the AAPath Executive Office from commercial partners or sponsors.
  8. Notifications will be sent by email no later than February 27, 2026.
